Claire Furnell-Williams, Marketing & Development Manager, Hemel Hempstead Business Ambassadors
This is an initiative that has brought together the expertise of a diverse range of organisations across the public, private, education and third sectors.
The aim of the Ambassadors is to promote Hemel Hempstead and the Borough of Dacorum, to strengthen the reputation of the area as the prime choice for business, and attract key people to work and live in the area.
The focus is also on creating new jobs, attracting top talent and persuading investors and developers to see the area as the perfect place to invest.

Dacorum Borough Council – Enterprise & Investment team
Dacorum Borough Council is committed to ensuring the area is a place where business flourishes. Working in partnership with the Business Ambassadors, plus landowners, commercial agents and developers, a dedicated team of experts is focused on promoting economic growth and prosperity throughout the borough.
I lead the Planning, Development and Regeneration service at Dacorum Borough Council. A Chartered Town Planner with 30 years of experience, I have worked in the planning and economic development field in the Hemel Hempstead and Dacorum areas for some 20 years of my career.
Responsible for managing the planning applications process at Dacorum, I also lead on the future planning of the Borough where the Council is setting plans to develop the area for the next 20 years. I also head up the economic and business development activities the Council carries out and was responsible for the development of the highly successful Maylands Business Centre.
Most recently, I have been responsible for developing the plans for the regeneration of Hemel Hempstead Town Centre and overseeing the roll-out of much of Dacorum Borough Council’s £30m investment in the area. I also lead on another range of projects including shaping the future of the Two Waters area of the town as a location for new investment and housing delivery, the regeneration and ongoing development of Maylands Business Park, urban realm improvements to Maylands Avenue and two further extensions to the Maylands Business Centre.
I manage a fantastic group of people which includes long term planning for the borough of Dacorum and delivery of regeneration schemes within the area and including Town centres, Maylands Business area and the neigbourhoods and green spaces. The group also includes economic development and learning and skills.
My job is to ensure that the Council plans for, and facilitates and delivers improvement to our Borough both physically through regeneration and also improves the quality of life, in areas such as skills, employment and green spaces through economic development.
We aim to attract investment into the borough and continually make Dacorum a great place to live, work and enjoy!

I am the Assistant Team Leader for the Enterprise and Investment team and have two distinct job roles. I manage the Maylands Business Centre and am responsible for its day-to-day running and looking after the tenants.
As an accredited business advisor, I also work with new and established businesses (with fewer than 50 employees) in Dacorum. I offer them support, networking and training and work with them to ensure their survival.
