Local bath bomb making business and HHBA member Castaway Cottage joined other nominees on Friday January 21 for the annual Hertfordshire Heart Hero Awards at Sopwell House. It was hosted by Heart FM drivetime DJ, John Darin and sponsored by Taylor Walton.
‘Grandad Castaway’ was a finalist as Parent of the Year for his support of Archie. He used his knowledge and expertise to help Archie and Castaway thrive through lockdown, whilst caring for his wife with dementia who sadly died at the end of last year.
Archie was a finalist for Young Achiever of the Year, which he won!
It was a fantastic evening and testament to how three generations of family have come together to enable autistic Archie to shine and build a business that will give him full time employment in the future. In 2021 The Office for National Statistics (ONS) reported just 22% of autistic adults are in any kind of employment.
Archie said, “A huge thank you to all of the sponsors, nominees and Heart FM. I feel incredibly proud to win this award, and the opportunity to highlight how autism can be a huge advantage and what’s possible with the right guidance and support. The evening was a fantastic celebration.”
George Cronin, aka ‘Grandad Castaway’ remarked,”‘We are incredibly fortunate to have the support of a loyal and growing customer base, local businesses and retailers championing Castaway and what it represents in Hertfordshire.’’
Castaway Cottage is looking for offices to visit to offer staff a lunchtime shopping experience. If you are interested please contact Louise: email@example.com.
