First new council homes for 2021

Dacorum Borough Council has received the handover of the first new-build properties of the year last week.

Bingham Mews is a small development of three two-bedroom council homes for social rent in the rural area of Gaddesden Row. The scheme is designed to complement the adjacent housing association site, bringing much-needed homes for local residents.

These modern, energy-efficient homes use the latest low-carbon technology. They are equipped with renewable energy heating and electric systems. Central heating is provided through an air source heat pump system, providing domestic hot water and heat to the underfloor heating system and first-floor radiators. Each house also has four photovoltaic solar panels fitted to the roof, which generate electricity.

The new residents, who were allocated from the housing waiting list, are due to move in this month (February).

Cllr Margaret Griffiths, Portfolio Holder for Housing, said: “It’s fantastic to take handover of these new energy-efficient family homes. Many rural residents are priced out of living in their local areas making it so important that we provide affordable housing options to enable these communities to continue to thrive.”

DBC are looking to build 350 new homes over the next five years. Find out about the new developments being planned.
