We are really lucky here in Dacorum to have the support of a wonderful team at Dacorum Borough Council. In these tricky times, especially for businesses it is reassuring to know that our local council has gone above and beyond to support businesses and residents alike.
The CEO of Dacorum Council, Sally Marshall was pleased to report that they had received a call from Lord Callanan, Minister for Climate Change and Corporate Responsibility at BEIS. He had telephoned on behalf of the Government to personally thank the Council and all staff involved in distributing the Business Rate Grant scheme monies.
He wanted to thank the Council for paying out 80% of the total and Sally was pleased to be able to update him that as of this week, DBC had paid out a total of 88% for which he was grateful. Sally informed him that although there was some difficulty engaging with the final few businesses, we had used a range of approaches to reach these businesses, including advertising, social media, support and contacts with our partners.
It is not just government that recognise the hard work of our local council, we hear daily from our businesses who have received grants a quickly – HHBA has directed many businesses to the help of our Economic Development team in order to help our businesses survive this time.
Owner of MRK Associates and HHBA Board member Roland Seddon said, “As a recruitment business focused on recruiting finance staff in the local region, we speak to a large number of SMEs on a daily basis. A number of business owners, managing directors and finance directors have said to us how impressed they were with the speed in which Dacorum Borough Council processed the grant payments for their businesses. The common message was how it made a huge difference in allowing them to keep paying staff and suppliers during the initial panic of lockdown where economic activity ceased so rapidly. I, for one, as the owner of MRK, want to thank the council for this and their recent praise from the government was well deserved.”
