A message from the Mayor of Dacorum

We are living in unprecedented and exceptional times and as a consequence of these events Government have allowed a Mayor to continue for an additional period of time and it has been agreed that I should continue for a further year until May 2021.

Sadly the lockdown meant that a number of visits and events were cancelled and whenever possible in the forthcoming year I would hope to visit as many businesses and organisations as possible.

I realise that the present business climate is incredibly difficult and I recognise the challenges that business owners and their staff are facing. Dacorum Borough Council has a support facility operated by our Economic Development Team with links to it via the Dacorum Borough Council website and they are operating to assist responding to the myriad of queries at this time. Likewise the government has a range of support facilities and initiatives to try and reduce the impact.

I realise that employees can face a worrying time thinking about what the future holds in store and it is encouraging that we are beginning to see the first tentative steps in restoring a level of normality.

Finally we must never forget those who have succumbed to this dreadful virus and our hearts, thoughts and prayers must go out to those who grieve for them and the loss that they bear.

Please stay safe and I hope to meet with you in the not too distant future.

Terry Douris

Mayor of Dacorum.
