We enjoyed another busy meeting on January 30th at the beautiful Aubrey Park Hotel.
After an excellent networking opportunity, we were able to welcome a record seven new members, Dacorum Sports Trust, Paul Thomas Digital, Heart Radio Hertfordshire, V12 Tech, Venue Queen, Drift Limits and Anytime Fitness Hemel Hempstead. We were also able to introduce Linda from D-Lab .
Our topic for the meeting was Flexible Working, who does it work for and how do you negotiate this tricky world:
John O’Sullivan from Ten2Two recruitment kicked off proceedings looking at the employees’ case for flexible working, he shared an interesting quote:
“We think, mistakenly, that success is the result of the amount of time we put in at work, instead of the quality of time we put in.” Arianna Huffington – The Huffington Post
He also gave us the results of several surveys, one of which pointed out that Flexible workers are happier workers with 75% said it boots their job satisfaction. It was also Millennial parents leading the way with flexible working with 62% of this group enjoying flexibility in their role.
The baton was handed to Ruth George who looked at the benefits from an employer’s perspective, pointing out that Flexible working was only part of the puzzle, sharing personal stories of how to make flexibility work. She concluded her presentation by recommending that all businesses “Audit their HR plans and policies”
Robert Males from Underwoods solicitors concluded the presentations by looking at the legal requirements surrounding working flexible – he explained every employer is required to “Consider” a request for flexible writing from any employee, but the employee is required to “do their homework” and put forward in writing a case for their proposed flexibility.
The event concluded with a brief Q&A session and more opportunities to catch up with fellow Ambassadors. We are looking forward to meeting again on March 25th (please note this is a date change) for Afternoon Tea at Shendish Manor.
