In recognition of the VE Day 75th Anniversary the Rotary Clubs of Berkhamsted and Hemel Hempstead are organising a veterans’ day out on 2nd June 2020 to the National Memorial Arboretum (NMA) at Alrewas, Staffordshire.
While many veterans have been able to make a successful transition from the military into a comfortable civilian career, this day out is aimed at those who are unable to arrange such a visit themselves. They may be experiencing financial difficulties, disabilities, unemployment, PTSD and mental health issues, problems adjusting to civilian life after military service or other personal difficulties. They might also be homeless.
The visit will include coach travel to the NMA, a land-train ticket for a hop on – hop off trip around the 150 acre site and a contribution to refreshments during the day.
There will be no cost to needy veterans since Barnett’s Coaches are sponsoring the travel costs with a significantly reduced hire charge for a 49-seater coach. Funding has been secured for up to 30 veterans for the costs of land-train tickets and refreshments during the day.
The Rotary Clubs are seeking additional funding from individuals, businesses or corporate organisations to enable additional veterans to take part. A donation of £10 will cover travel costs, one of £5 covers a land-train ticket and a further £10 would cover refreshments on the day for each veteran. Should the event be oversubscribed and to avoid disappointment for veterans it may be necessary to arrange a second coach. Funding for a second coach has not yet been secured and will cost approximately £1500.
Donations can be made to Hemel Hempstead Rotary Club Trust Account: Sort Code 30 94 08 Acct. No. 00923230. Cheque payments should be annotated Veterans Day. All sponsorship will be appreciated and recognised in future publicity.
Places can be reserved by contacting email@example.com or 01442 388586 (answer phone). The first 30 applicants will be given priority subject to meeting certain criteria. Any further requests will be placed on a reserve list and transferred to the priority list as additional funding becomes available.
Hemel Hempstead Business Ambassadors will be making a donation and encourages all our members to do the same.
