On Saturday (29 June 2019) the sun shone brightly over Gadebridge Park, Hemel Hempstead, as thousands turned out for Dacorum Borough Council’s special Armed Forces Day celebration, a fun-packed event for all.
The day gave everyone the opportunity to show their support for the men and women of the Armed Forces past and present, including currently serving troops, service families, reservists, veterans and cadets.
The event was opened by the Mayor of Dacorum Cllr Terry Douris and the Rt Hon Sir Mike Penning MP, who gave background information about Armed Forces Day.
This was followed by an exciting programme of free entertainment. Headlining acts included the Imps Motorcycle Team, the Eastbourne Youth Field Gun Team and the Revelations Majorettes.
The park was alive with music from Radio Dacorum who provided background music, compared parts of the event and broadcasted live to the borough.
There was also a Venturer Simulator, inflatables and adventure equipment for everyone to enjoy plus stalls, stands and activities in the park.
Cllr Julie Banks, Portfolio Holder for Community and Regulatory Services, said: “It was great to see so many people having a fun time with their families while showing their support for members of the armed forces for their hard work and dedication.”
Similar events took place across the UK, enabling people to come out and show their support, giving a much-valued morale boost for Armed Forces personnel and their families. This year’s national event took place in Salisbury, Wiltshire.
