The Marlowes Shopping Centre in Hemel Hempstead has installed a unique multi-sensory Leaping Lagoon activation as part of its wider offering for children and families this summer holiday.
The Leaping Lagoon is a fantastic one-of-a-kind interactive art installation designed by artist, Anna Crane, to give children a unique and immersive experience. Kids are encouraged to have lots of fun jumping around the Lagoon from lily pad to lily pad which, upon impact, release the scent of apricot and play a variety of nature sounds.
Adding to its magical illusion, this nature themed activity offers a woodland setting seating area for both parents and children to relax during their shopping trip.
The Leaping Lagoon area also offers free craft sessions for children of all ages, run by local company Creation Station, who encourage children to create a variety of take-home art pieces – from woolly sheep masks to nature-themed drawings. These are run every Wednesday of the school holidays from 11am-4pm, providing children with creative crafty fun and a number of artwork masterpieces to pin on the fridge door at home.
Similarly, The Leaping Lagoon also offers engaging story-telling from Herts Inclusive Theatre who will be reading a variety of children’s story time favourites from 11am to 2pm every Thursday.
Vince Williams, Centre Manager at The Marlowes said: ‘So far, the Leaping Lagoon has been a roaring success with our local families. This unique art installation, created by Anna Crane is an activity like no other we have seen in shopping centres before. This beautiful nature-themed area in the middle of The Marlowes has given families the chance to play and turn their shopping experience into something more over the summer holidays.
Furthermore, we’ve been able to incorporate our usual summer holidays Kid’s Club activities into the Leaping Lagoon. Our crafts and story time reading offerings fit in perfectly with the interactive area and we can’t wait to welcome plenty more children to come and play before the school term commences.’
These exciting summer holiday additions to the centre align with The Marlowes’ upcoming development plans that have recently been announced; which will greatly expand their family and leisure orientated offering. These will begin to be implemented mid-September.
