Dacorum Borough Council are installing new parking payment machines in 20 of their 25 car parks.
From mid April, the new machines will allow you to make chip and pin and contactless payments for the first time. You will still be able to pay by cash and RingGo phone payments. The new machines will be installed between 9 and 24 April.
You’ll also no longer need to return to your car to display a ticket, as you’ll now enter your vehicle registration number, choose how long you want to park for and make a payment. All parking sessions overrunning 6pm will finish at 4am.
Indigo Park Services UK Ltd will continue to deliver the enforcement of both car park and on-street parking on our behalf.
Cllr Graeme Elliot, Portfolio Holder for Finance and Resources, said,
“The move to paperless parking and contactless payments should make the whole process of paying for parking in council car parks much easier and quicker for residents. We’re pleased to be rolling out these improvements along with a freeze in car park tariffs for 2018-19.”
Indigo parking will also be introducing a ‘spotter’ vehicle that will be fitted with ANPR (automatic number plate recognition) CCTV cameras to monitor parking across the borough.
Most residents living in Controlled Parking Zones will no longer have paper permits and visitor voucher scratch cards. Instead, residents will be able to enter the registration number and duration of a visitor’s stay online – up to the value of “virtual” vouchers that they have purchased or their annual allowance, whichever is reached first.
The ANPR vehicle will recognise the registration numbers of resident permit holders and visitors’ vehicles registered online.
Residents living in Controlled Parking Zones will receive a letter explaining the changes in March.
